June 2nd, 2012 the Central Missouri Scale Modelers in partnership with the Columbia Public Library hosted a Scale Modeling Workshop open to the public.  The CMSM setup three demonstration tables (figure painting, general model construction and decal application), two Make-N-Take tables for the kids and parents to make one of two models to take home.  We also started the Workshop off with a short presentation of the club and the hobby of scale modeling.  Members that helped also brought models to set on a static display to show what can be done.

We had 8 kids and accompanying parents choose either an SR-71 Black Bird plane or a Hummer vehicle model to build and take home!  We held a drawing for the kids and for the adults giving away two models.

The Columbia Public Library was very happy to have the event and asked if we can consider doing one in the winter!

I want to say a special "Thank You!" for Rusty (wife and kids), Colin, Jack, Randy, T.Mike and Eric for helping out with this event!

On a side note - I learned a valuable lesson at this event.  My son and I packed up my models I brought for display very carefully in a large plastic tub.  Just before we left we decided to set the tub on some chairs while we picked up the room.  Did you know that the sound of crashing models on the floor gives one a sickly feeling in the pit of your stomach.  Yes - the valuable lesson learned that day is never set your tub of models on a chair or table - always use the ground where they can not fall.  Yes every one of my models suffered damage from minor to catastrophic.  The diorama display dust covers suffered scratches or fractures so if you know how to buff out cheap display plastic let me know!
I have been able to repair most of the models and I am now able to walk by my model displays without crying....
Lesson 43 - learned..... the hard way!
