July 2013 !

Here we are in the first week of July, the year is half over, and I am writing my first “Message from the President.”  T. Mike is trying to get me comfortable using our web site, but we are not quite there yet.  Neither of us are giving up yet.

I wanted to talk about my priorities for the club in the remainder of this year.  Expanding membership is not my main goal for the club.  My priority is you as a model builder.  My goal is to maintain membership by having a club that develops every member as a better model builder.  If we can have fun and learn about our craft, every member will want to attend every club meeting because they will learn something new every month.  That is why I believe our programs at our meetings are so important.  We can all learn from one another.  The car guys have taught me how to create a gloss finish that will make my planes look better.  Rusty’s figure painting session taught me how to do a better job painting airplane cockpits.  These techniques transfer to all of our model building.

At the meeting this Thursday, we are going to focus on masking.  I have a Japanese fighter that I hope to use to illustrate some of the masking techniques I like to use.  I believe Scott Adams is going to show us some of the techniques he uses.  I encourage all members to bring in models showing their techniques and results.  Everyone should be a teacher and a student.
At every club meeting, we need to discuss what we want to see in upcoming programs.  Let us know what you are having problems with and we can talk about techniques to help your modeling, and schedule programs to address these issues.  It looks like we will be doing another demonstration on airbrushing for the August meeting.  I need your feedback if we are going to make this club instructional and fun.

See you on Thursday, July 11th, 2013,
Jack
