March 2012 Update

Hello Fellow Modelers!

Well - the year has started off on a positive note!  Our public outreach efforts are starting to come together.  Our next 6 months will be filled with many opportunities to inform the public of the fantastic hobby and art of scale model building and of the local club that is there for them.

Our club has committed to putting on a Saturday afternoon program at the Daniel Boone Regional Library in the summer 2012.  Date/time to be determined.  The library is very interested in us doing a Make-N-Take for the kids (which we can get kits from IPMS for) as well as a station or two of actual model building examples and a short talk about the hobby and club.  The library will promote the event in it's program guide and in other venues.

The library is also interested in having our club setup a display in the secured shelve (locked glass doors) on the third floor of the library in downtown Columbia.  We are working out the theme (space or military) with the library at this time.

The CMSM has also been given permission to setup a display at the Cub Scout Derby Day event to be held at the Parkade Center on April 14th.  The comments the Scout leadership had from last year's display was positive so they are happy to have us try to educate and entice kids into the hobby.  I would like to make sure that we have an ongoing model build (someone physically building a model with the tools and glue and stuff) at the display.  The kids last year did not seem to understand that these finely built models actually started out as tiny pieces of single color plastic.  We just have to get past the "So it's like Legos?" question.

Our club will also be placing a small display at the Tuskegee Airmen Reception sponsored by UMB Bank on Friday the 25th of May.

Please review the Club's Calendar of Events located on our web site.  If you see an event that we need to know about please email us.

The meeting this last week was a very informative and useful meeting according to my sources (T.Mike and Scott Adams).  Everyone had an opportunity to use and experiment with air brushing.  Please let us know of any other topics you want to have.  Look at the list on our web site (  Jack Andrewson is managing the topics and will be coordinating the rest.

Don't forget that the April 2012 meeting will be a Photo Shoot of your best models.  We will also have a Technique Teach while we are waiting for the models to be photographed.  Bring your in process models and questions!

Also - remember that CMSM is now social!  Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter or watch videos on our YouTube Channel!

Happy modeling!
