November and TigerCon

We are less than a week away from TigerCon 2013.  This is the time that we all need to pull together to make this event a success.  We cannot get into Hickman before 7:00am Saturday morning.  We need our members there when the doors open. We need to set up tables for vendors, help the vendors set up, set up our welcome table, registration, raffle, and the Make-n-Take tables, as well as cover the round tables for the contest area.

This year, we are also going to have a display table of models which will not in the contest, built by our members.  We will have 3x5 index cards available for you to label your display models, or you can make up your own labels ahead of time.

We need volunteers to help with the judging.  All judging will be done in three person teams, so you will not be under too much pressure.  Judging is good for your model building!  Once you see what the judges are looking for, you will know more about what you have to do with your models to be more competitive.  Remember, you don’t have to win contests to be proud of your work and enjoy modeling.

Our November club meeting will be the Thursday after TigerCon.  We will not have a program for that meeting.  We will use this meeting as a critique of TigerCon.  What we did right, and what we need to do to improve on for next year’s contest.  We will also try to have a slide show of the models from the contest.  The club will provide some food for the meeting.  Members are asked to bring some snacks to share with the rest of the club.  Since we are coming down to the end of the year, we also need to discuss who we want for club officers for 2014.

We will have a program on decals for the December meeting.  We may also have a short demonstration on another technique for our model building.  I can’t tell you what yet until I get things lined up.  Our priority will be lining up our club officers, and start collecting club dues for next year.

Happy modeling,
Jack Andrewson
President, CMSM
